I saw one only once, when visiting missionary friends in the Ozarks. What a cool looking bird! They told me that road runners will kill and eat rattle snakes!

Great pictures and information! I live in rural sunny hot central CA and have only seen one once. I wouldn’t have noticed it but it moved. It’s colors blended in perfectly with the orchard background. Thanks. Love the Biblical references too.
