McGuffey Readers were a series of graded primers for grade levels 1-6. They were widely used as textbooks in American schools from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, and are still used today in some private schools and in homeschooling.

  1. This story is so cute. You’d think, having been an English teacher most of my life, that I would have read a lot of stories from McGuffey. But for some reason, I never did. I liked this one a lot. Good common sense, real-life use of those vocabulary words.

  2. What is so sad now is that these books probably wouldn’t be allowed in public schools. That is where they were originally used. How our society is falling away from its roots.
There are more of these stories to use. Stay tuned!
